Welcome to North Shields.live
A new, independent community hub for North Shields, the fishing town on the north bank of the Tyne, from the Fish Quay to the Metro.
Welcome to North Shields.live, a free, independent community hub for North Shields, the historic fishing town on the north bank of the River Tyne in North Tyneside. North Shields has a strong identity of its own: the working Fish Quay, now one of the region's best places to eat; the Shields Ferry, the last passenger ferry on the Tyne; a Georgian town centre climbing up from the riverside; and direct Metro links along the coast and into Newcastle. (It is not to be confused with South Shields, the town across the water on the south bank.)
What you'll find here
- What's On, a calendar of local events, from the Exchange 1856 and the Old Low Light to community happenings around the town. Our listings are pulled from real local organisers.
- Directory, a growing guide to the independent restaurants, bars, shops and services of North Shields and the Fish Quay.
- Guides & Blog, practical, locally-researched guides to eating out on the quay, the town's maritime heritage, getting around, and days out nearby.
- Education, a plain guide to North Shields schools and the North Tyneside admissions basics.
We're just getting started, and we'll be adding listings, guides and events over the coming weeks. If you run a local business or organise events in North Shields, we'd love to hear from you, get in touch.
