About This Event

This lunchtime talk at the Old Low Light looks at Northumbria's Golden Age before the Norman Conquest, when coastal communities produced world-class art inspired by the creatures around them. David Hirst traces a path from the seabirds in the margins of the Lindisfarne Gospels to the animals of the Bayeux Tapestry, taking in cormorants, warhorses, hounds and mythical monsters, and it is timely for anyone planning to see the Tapestry at the British Museum. Tickets are £5, free for members.
