About This Event

Artist Sana Burney is developing Signals of Belonging, a public artwork for Lowe!, North Shields' festival of art, and this session forms part of her creative research. She will introduce the project and invite residents to think about what belonging means to them, in North Shields and more broadly. Simple prompts about memories, family links, objects, traditions, buildings and everyday things connected to the town lead into writing, drawing or simply talking. Participants then turn an image, shape or idea into a motif and repeat it into a pattern on paper, mirroring the process behind the finished artwork, and take their pattern home. Personal stories will not be reproduced literally, and names and personal details will not appear in the artwork.
