After-School Clubs in North Shields
Dance, drama, gymnastics, swimming, football and martial arts: a guide to the best after-school clubs and children's activities in North Shields.
The after-school hours are precious, and a good club can do wonders for a child's confidence, fitness and friendships. North Shields is well served, with dance and drama schools, gymnastics, swimming and a strong martial arts scene all on the doorstep. Here is our guide to after-school clubs in North Shields.
Dance and drama
Stages School of Dance has been teaching at Tasker Hall on Howard Street since 1984, offering ballet, tap, modern and musical theatre for all ages with proper grades and exams. For budding actors, Ramsey's Theatre Stars, also on Howard Street, runs drama and theatre classes that build confidence and performance skills, with the chance to work towards a show.
Sport and swimming
For swimming, Tynemouth Swimming Pool on Beach Road, run by the council, has a full Learn to Swim programme for children. The Parks Sports Centre hosts gymnastics and babyballet classes, and North Shields Juniors AFC runs Saturday soccer skills for all abilities. Between them they cover most of the sporty basics close to home.
Martial arts
Martial arts are among the best after-school activities for children, building discipline as well as fitness. Serenity Jiu Jitsu teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu to children, Tempest Martial Arts runs kids' kickboxing and karate, and UKTC Taekwondo has classes for all ages at The Parks, including Little Tiger Cubs for the youngest. See our full guide to martial arts in North Shields for more.
