About This Event

Divorced, Beheaded, Died is a one-man living-history production that summons the audience into the presence of England's most notorious Tudor monarch. Set in 1544, towards the close of his reign, King Henry VIII holds court and recounts the events of his life: the six marriages, the break with Rome, the fates of his wives and the futures of his children. Written and performed with a sharp eye for period detail, it blends robust storytelling with the swagger, wit and menace of a king long accustomed to being obeyed. The evening is structured in two acts and concludes with a question-and-answer session in which the monarch invites those gathered to raise any subject they please, staying in character throughout. Having toured widely across the country and beyond, the show has drawn praise for a performance so convincing that audiences report feeling genuinely in the room with the formidable sovereign. It comes to the Linskill Centre, a restored former school and community hub in North Shields, for an accessible and entertaining brush with Tudor history. Suitable for ages 12 and over.
