About Fred's
Fred's occupies a converted warehouse on Tanners' Bank at the eastern end of North Shields Fish Quay, with a big terrace looking out over the mouth of the Tyne. It opened in April 2026 in the premises that was long known as The Ship's Cat, refurbished and relaunched as a relaxed all-day bar and kitchen.
The menu runs to comforting pub classics with a coastal leaning, alongside cocktails and a well-kept bar, and the riverside setting makes it a popular spot for a long lunch or a drink as the boats come and go. It is dog-friendly and geared to the quayside's easygoing, walk-in crowd.
