Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat Station

RNLI lifeboat station on North Shields Fish Quay with a volunteer crew providing 24-hour search and rescue at sea.

About Tynemouth RNLI Lifeboat Station

Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat station sits on the historic North Shields Fish Quay, just inside the mouth of the River Tyne. It operates a Severn class all-weather lifeboat, Spirit of Northumberland, and a D class inshore lifeboat, providing a round-the-clock search and rescue service along the local coast and well out to sea.

The station's crew of around 29 are all volunteers who come from all walks of life, and like the rest of the RNLI it receives no government funding and depends on public support. Visitors are welcome on weekdays during the day or by appointment, and volunteering vacancies, at sea and ashore, are advertised through the RNLI's own volunteering pages. In an emergency at sea, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
